Formula - for 1 cup rice use 1/2 cup dhal
A slight modification
2 cinnamon sticks
2 bay leaves
2 cups rice
1 full onion
1 tomato
1 1/2 cup Dhal (thoor (3/4) + moong (1/4) + channa dhal (1/2))
All kinds of vegetables
2 sp bisibelabath powder (janaki ram's powder) (equal to number of cups rice)
1 1/2 sp sambar powder (equal to number of cups dhal)
3 1/2 sp salt
1 sp turmeric
Little coriander leaves
Little tamarind soaked
Pour a little oil in a cooker, once heated, sauté cinnamon sticks and bay leaves in it. Once done, add onions, sauté well. Then add all veggies and tomato, sauté for couple of minutes. Then add rice and dhal. Add turmeric powder, bisibelabath powder, sambar powder. Then add coriander leaves. Mix well. Then add 4 cups of water for one cup of rice/dhal. For example in this recipe, for 3 1/2 cups (2 cups rice + 1 1/2 cups dhal) add, 4 * 3 1/2 = 14 cups + since the rice has to be mushy, add additional 2 cups in the end. Keep the cooker in medium flame with the timer set for 25 mins. Once the timer is over, then after the steam is cooled down, open the cooker, stir it well and then pour the tamarind juice from the soaked tamarind in the rice. Mix thoroughly, and yummy Bisibelabath is ready!!!
This was a super hit in our whole family and friends group.
